Privacy Policy

1. Our Approach to Privacy
Inmate Reviews exists so incarcerated people and their families can speak up safely. Because our community includes people in vulnerable situations, we collect as little personal information as we can, we display reviews without names, and we do not sell personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
2. Information You Give Us
- Reviews and replies. The text you submit is published on the Service. Reviews are displayed without your name. Avoid putting identifying details in the text itself if you wish to remain anonymous.
- Account information (when accounts launch): a username, a password, an email address or phone number, and a birthdate, used to operate your account and verify eligibility.
- Contact messages: your name, contact details, the topics you select, and your message, used to respond to you.
- Advertiser applications: the business information you submit (name, phone, address, website, social links, logo, description) plus your typed signature agreeing to the advertising terms. Business listing information is published as part of the advertisement.
3. Information Collected Automatically
We keep simple usage counts — which pages are visited and a random visitor identifier stored in your browser — so we can understand what parts of the Service are useful. We do not use this to build profiles of individuals, and we do not use third-party advertising trackers.
4. Information Stored on Your Device
Your language preference (English or Spanish) and your recent searches are stored only in your own browser to make the Service easier to use. They are not transmitted to us as part of a profile, and clearing your browser data removes them.
5. Payments
Advertising payments are processed by third-party payment services (such as PayPal, Cash App, or Venmo) under their own terms and privacy policies. We never see or store your card or bank numbers.
6. How We Use Information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To publish reviews, replies, and paid listings.
- To respond to messages and administer advertising.
- To enforce our Terms of Service and protect users.
- To comply with legal obligations.
7. When We Share Information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Service (such as website hosting), when required by valid legal process, to protect the safety of a person or the Service, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger — and in each case only what is necessary.
8. Anonymity and Safety
Reviews are shown without the author’s name because fear of retaliation silences the people this platform exists to serve. We design the Service to minimize the connection between a published review and its author. Please remember that details inside a review’s text (dates, incidents, unit numbers) could still identify you to someone familiar with the situation, and that we may be required to disclose account records in response to valid legal process.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Retention and Your Choices
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Published reviews may remain on the Service to preserve the public record they create. You may contact us to request correction or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and we will honor requests as required by applicable law.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and may announce material changes on the Service.
